Broadview Heights Library and Downtown
The Brief
The Team
To develop a master plan for Broadview Heights, Ohio. It is to include configuring the fire station, lifestyle retail, housing to promote healthy lifestyle, and design a new library. This comprehensive master plan is to tie an otherwise disjointed campus design together and support and promote Broadview Heights as the place to live, work and play. While some cities develop mixed use “lifestyle centers” with living, retail and entertainment forced together, this plan is meant to create these environments naturally, so the development is sustainable and natural.

Broadview Heights is located in northern Ohio about 20 minutes from Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The city’s culture is centralized around families and senior citizens. The downtown area is disjointed and disconnected from the Recreation Center, preventing walkability.
Design Goals
Create a center around the downtown and the rec center campus to support and serve the community
Create housing density to enable walkable distances
Create intentional greenspaces for the community
The masterplan focuses on increased housing density and walkable retail areas at the intersection of the two main roads.
The library site is located at the intersection of Broadview Road and Oakes Road, which frame the Recreation Center plot.
