Mustang LX 2035
Project Overview
In this project, industrial design students will take on the challenge of envisioning the 2035 Pony Car, working in three brand-focused groups: Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro, and Dodge Challenger
Each group will compete internally to develop two winning concepts — a standard version and a performance version — resulting in six final designs across all brands.
Students will take on specific roles such as lead designer, clay modeler, VR modeler, or component designer, collaborating to bring their vision to life. While the designs should pay homage to each brand’s historical roots, they must be new, forward-looking, and original concepts — avoiding retro design in favor of fresh interpretations that push the boundaries of brand identity.
The project will culminate in a final presentation showcasing each team’s work, including a 1:7 scale clay model with integrated 3D-printed components and detailed renderings that capture the style, personality, and design intent of their vehicle.
This academic exercise is an opportunity to combine creativity, technical skill, and brand heritage to imagine the future of an American automotive icon.

The Brand
Who is Mustang?
A brand defined by the people that drive them: hard-working, stylish, and traditional.
Sketch Ideation
Orthographics were developed then given to the clay team to use as the basis of modeling.
Virtual Reality Model Development
The VR model was created in GravitySketch. It included converting orthographics into a 3D wireframe, and then surfacing using a method of hands-on subdivision. The vehicle base model was then used in rendering with the CAD models created by David Stralnic and Joslyn Kalamaras.
